I joined the Retail Partnership scheme in
August 2007 and completed the FIVE DAY RESIDENTIAL
TRAINING COURSE the same month. I was very apprehensive and
nervous about going back into a classroom having left school
sixteen years ago. My fears were dispelled as soon as I arrived
at the training centre. The staff there were brilliant and I
felt at home straight away. The other candidates on the same
course were very friendly and we soon became good friends. The
course was very intense but at the same time very interesting. I
am glad to say I passed everything as did my new found friends.
We all stayed together at a lovely hotel on the outskirts of
Bradford. The food and service there was excellent and we all
had some good evenings in the bar. I would recommend the Retail
Partnership course to anyone wanting to enter the licensed trade

Pat and myself recently completed our weeks HANDS ON
TRAINING at the training pub in Reigate, Surrey.
Their system of training people in the pub trade was informative
and exciting for both of us. We were both very nervous and naive
at the beginning of the week. By the end of the week we were
relaxed and so much more confident in our roles. When we arrived
there it was a warm and friendly welcome we received. As the
week progressed we learned all about running a pub, from opening
time to closing time, from line cleaning to customer service.
This has made us more determined to run a pub to the same high

I became a LEODIS RETAIL PARTNER in April 2007 having been involved in the pub trade for
many years. The overall three stages of the Retail Partnership
Scheme are excellent and I would recommend anyone wanting to
enter the licensed trade to take the opportunity. I was unhappy
with working all hours for someone else’s benefit, so I decided
a change of direction was necessary. I did not have the capital
to buy a pub lease or take a tenancy so the Retail Partnership
seemed ideal for me. I had a personal licence but completed the
training course to get the rest of the qualifications. I found
the course very thorough and enjoyed it immensely. I did not
realize how little I knew about running a pub. After completing
the course I went with my partner on a week’s assessment course
at a pub near Leeds. This was very good for us as we are
passionate about real ales and the pub had five different real
ales on sale. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves for this week as
it was more like a holiday. We were looked after and fed
superbly. Nothing was too much trouble and the couple who did
the training took us out for a night. The placement team at Leodis found our ideal pub in Kendal that we moved into four
weeks later. It is a super place and we are really enjoying our
new way of life. Many thanks to Peter and the rest of the team
